Hella Automotive lighting, electronics, complete vehicle modules and the automotive components aftermarket are the core
competence areas of the automotive supplier Hella HG Hueck & Co. Hella's group headquarters is in Lippstadt. The current
turnover of the Hella Group is more than 2,9 billion Euro. In terms of turnover, Hella is among the top 100 German
industrial companies. 22,500 people are employed in 58 manufacturing facilities, production subsidiaries and joint-venture
companies around the world. All the world's leading automobile manufacturers are Hella lighting customers.
Hella employs around 1,700 design engineers and technicians in lighting research and development. Hella is one of the world's largest and oldest companies selling automotive lighting and electronic/electrical components supplies replacement and wearing parts as well as attractive accessory products to specialist dealers and workshops in more than 100 countries. Automotive Lighting
With a market share of over 60 percent Hella is the market and technology leader in the field of
xenon headlamps. Hella headlamp systems using xenon light produce 2.5 times more luminous flux than Hella halogen lamps for a
significantly clearer and wider illumination of the road and an increased driving light range. Hella Bi-xenon headlamps produce
dipped and main beam light from one xenon lamp. The next step in Hella's development: cornering light, produced using swivelling
bi-xenon headlamps or auxiliary static cornering headlamps. For the new Audi A8, Hella and Audi engineers developed the
world's first headlamp with standard cornering light. Other cars will follow from 2003 onwards. The Hella variable intelligent
lighting system of the future (VARILIS) goes further still, with the light being controlled fully automatically and
depending on the specific lighting situation. It is expected that the international authorities responsible will have approved
the new regulations necessary for this new system by 2005. Hella is expected to the lead the way with this new lighting technology.
Further areas of current Hella development are headlamps using light guide technology and Night Vision Systems. A Hella headlamp system using light guide technology, developed by Hella for the concept vehicle Volvo SCC (Safety Concept Car), has a modular design with light source and light aperture separate. This creates a whole range of new possibilities for Hella designing vehicle front-ends and the light distribution can be further optimised. Hella Night Vision Systems are seen to be additional driver assistance systems the main components of which are infrared headlamps, a camera and an image reproducing device lighting.
